Class Notes: Alumni in the News, October 2013

Here are your fellow Tigers who are making news this month.
Bryard Huggins '13's recently released second album, Visions, is now available via iTunes, Amazon and his website. Bryard is currently attending the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.

Michael Grimes '13 graduated from the Navy's only boot camp.

Bennet LeMaster '13 launched a website featuring her music. 

Claire Schneider '88 is in the news again for the exhibit she curated, appearing at Cheekwood until mid-January. Claire partnered with USN art teacher Liz Mask's class to recreate Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla’s “Chalk” art piece. These large-scale pieces of real chalk will be on display at Cheekwood beginning next month. 

Erin Drake '10 gave the convocation speech to the class of 2017 at Harvard this September.

Distinguished Alumnus Michael Puett '82 is praised by The Atlantic  for his Harvard University class, Classical Chinese Ethical and Political Theory. It is the third most popular class offered at Harvard!

J.J. Rosen '88 offers ways technology can help our current health care crisis in his technology column for The Tennessean.

Justin Maffett '12 traveled with the Dartmouth equestrian team to the University of Vermont, where they garnered the highest total team score. The Dartmouth team got 46 (3 pts away from a perfect set). Justin placed first in his class, walk-trot, which blocked other teams from scoring. They had the highest total team score the previous day at Middlebury College.

Rich Heller '91 and his wife are featured in Modern Luxury magazine for their art collection.

Christine Rogers '00's photography of India is featured on the Dazed Digital blog.

Tom Bailey '85's Professor Bailey's Spicy Pimento Cheese gets a rave review from the Nashville Scene's Bites blog and from Persnickety Biscuit.

Dr. John Jordan '79 is working to create a museum to celebrate the history of black doctors in America.

Manuel Zeitlin '72 discusses the business of buildings with The Nashville Post.

Max Goldberg '01 and Ben Goldberg '98 are interviewed in this promo video for the recent Music City Eats event. Ben will represent Nashville at the upcoming New York Wine and Food Festival.

Samantha Mazer '04, currently at Mississippi College Law School, placed 565 / 2137 at the World Championship Hawaii IRONMAN Triathlon. She swam 2.5 mi in 62", biked 120 miles in 5'53" and ran a marathon in 3'39" @ 10'32 total time. Her marathon pace was under 8'00 per mile.

Avi Bregman '10, a junior at Haverford College, ran 25'26 for 5 miles and placed 104th at the Paul Short Invite in Penn. He was the second finisher on his team, which is a nationally ranked Div III program.
