What Alumni Want People to Read

Over the past couple of months, we sought out suggestions from alumni for USN’s summer reading list. We received over 40 suggestions, which are now being reviewed by the English faculty.
Alumni who made suggestions ranged from Martha Keith Butler in the class of ’46—who, along with the class of '54’s Scott Sudduth suggested Catherine the Great by fellow alumnus Robert Massie ’46—to five members of the class of 2011—the most for any class. Suggestions were almost evenly split between fiction and non fiction and covered a wide range of authors including Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Norman Juster, and Jack Kerouac.  You can see the full list here—who recommended what book and why they think people should read it.
