Where the Class of 2010 is Headed

Tom Bailey
In keeping with classes from the past, the USN class of 2010 chooses many paths.
The 86 members of the class of 2010 are enrolling in 63 different colleges in 28 states and one Canadian province. One member of the class is continuing to embrace the school's initials by enlisting in the Navy. For a list of the colleges and universities that members of the class will be attending, you can click here.

The most popular colleges, with four members of 2010 entering each, are the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Washington University in St. Louis.  Since 1978 these two universities have respectively had the second and third most USN graduates enroll. For current undergraduates, including the class of 2010, UT is the 8th most popular and Washington University is the most popular.

Either two or three members of the class of 2010 are attending twelve other Universities--George Washington University, Eckerd College, Bard College, Boston University, University of Georgia, Oberlin College, Georgetown University, Macalester College, DePaul University, Denison College, Western Kentucky University, and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. With the exception of Rose Hulman, they will find at least one other USN alumnus/a undergraduate there to greet them. The lone member of the class of 2010 attending Indiana University will have the largest greeting committee, with 9 alumni undergraduates there to greet them.  The University of Pennsylvania, which has traditionally been the most popular Ivy League schools and 6th most popular choice for USN graduates overall, will be the only Ivy League school with no members of the USN class of 2010 attending (though there would be 9 USN alumni undergraduates there to greet them if there were).

Let it not be said that the class of 2010 is just following paths blazed by their predecessors.  Out of the 63 colleges and universities chosen by the class, 22 have no USN student currently enrolled and 7 of these haven't had a USN student attend since at least 1978.
