PDS/USN Reunion Succeeds Thanks to Alumni

Neither rain, nor runners, nor rumors of tornados could keep PDS/USN Reunion alumni away this past weekend.
On the Thursday of Reunion week, at least 130 alumni from all graduation years converged on Ben ’98 and Max ’01 Goldberg’s fantastic rooftop venue Aerial for an evening of fun and  reconnecting. Everyone enjoyed live blue grass courtesy of Russell Ries ’02 and his band mates. On Friday, the class of 1960 toured the Carl Van Vechten Gallery at Fisk, and a little while later alumni enjoyed lunch with their second grade pen pals.  Several veteran pen pals were able to catch up with their pen pals from five years ago, now seventh graders. Throughout the day, alumni toured the school, sat in on classes, and visited with former teachers.

The Alumni Art show reception featured dozens of artists from the classes of 1944 through 2005, with work that included sculpture,  painting,  and video. The show will continue to hang until the end of May. We hope you'll find time to come by and see it. Our belief in the talent of the PDS/USN family is affirmed in this show.

A special note of thanks to Lee Ann Harrod Merrick '79, Tory Sally Fitzgibbon ’86, and Megan Stillman ’04, who went well beyond the call of duty in putting this show together and making it a genuine success.

Saturday dawned with hordes of runners gathering on the streets and storm clouds gathering in the sky. Nothing stopped our alumni, though.  We welcomed a full house to the Reunion luncheon, which was webcast live for alumni who couldn’t be there. After the class of 1960 were inducted into the Gold Circle, Steve Sternheimer spoke, praising his class in particular and the school in general. Immediately afterwards, Charlie Lutin, from the class of 1970, affirmed the qualities of the school but vigorously disputed any claims that the class of 1960 (or '85) were in the same league as his own.

After the luncheon, alumni stayed around for photos, wandered the halls, and relished the newly restored bonds of friendship with their classmates. Later that day, they went off to their respective class parties, as many had the night before.

At least one surprise guest visited each party and event I mentioned above: a USN photographer. There are some photos here.  To see more images of all the weekend’s events and a video of the Reunion Luncheon, log on to the website and go to the alumni portal.
