University School of Nashville's Middle School and High School students won the AA Division of the Mid-State Convention of the Tennessee Junior Classical League.
By Richard Rosenthal, MS Latin Teacher
Competing against Latin scholars throughout Nashville and the broader Middle Tennessee Grand Division, University School of Nashville's Middle School and High School Latin students fared well at the annual Latin Convention.
At the two-day competition that took place at Hume-Fogg Academic High School and Montgomery Bell Academy, the scholars demonstrated their exemplary knowledge of Latin grammar, Roman history, and mythology. What's more, the students proved exceptionally creative and artistic by competing in art, costumes, and classical tweets (who knew that ancient Romans used Twitter!?). In the academic subjects and tweets, they competed against students at their level of Latin. In art and costumes, they competed against students from all levels.
Cody Farr '26 and Lexa Drewry '27 won Best in Show for Grammar and Reading Comprehension, respectively. They scored the highest not only at their level but out of all levels.
The Latin scholars scored points if they placed in the top five. Lexa and Jackson Green '26 scored the most points among the USN competitors. Lexa (3), Cody, Collin Chan '25 (2), Evan Giles '26, Jackson (2), Isaac Fulton '26, Lucia Gellert '27, Flora Li '27, and Aaron Raney '27 won academic contests.
