The 2021-2022 quiz bowl season was a banner year for the High School, with wins at the Cookeville Fall Invitational and Tennessee State History Bowl, and the team's success continued in Rosemont, Illinois at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments Small School National Championships.

Coming from all over the country, 55 teams qualified via their success at regional tournaments. USN competed in the Open Division against schools of similar enrollment size.

Rounds began on Saturday, April 23. The team faced tough competition but handled it well, emerging with an 8-2 record from the preliminary group. On Sunday, the team contested the playoff rounds. A tough overtime loss ended USN's run in the third round, but the team finished in 17th place, outscoring last year’s nationals team by 50 points per game and tying USN’s best ever finish at the event.

Additionally, Rohan Ramachandran '25 finished in 16th place among individual scorers — this was the second-highest individual place for any USN player in history at a national tournament.

Besides competing, the team had time for sightseeing, taking in Millenium Park and the Mall of Chicago.
