Flashes of brilliance, but surrounded by uncertainty. Lost both sets 11-25 and 11-25.
For the Varsity's 3rd game, this was by far the best game they've played. There was good serving, good defense, good hitting, but all that to say they lack consistency, which is a totally normal problem to have at this age and so early on in the season. What sticks out the most was the team's inability to loosen up. They played tight and never truly found the flow of the game. If you were the fans you could literally see the gears moving in their heads -- "where do I go," "is that my ball," "was that my fault." And that's not to say Varsity isn't good. Maeve Stevenson and Addi King had some amazing kills, Clarie Ward and Corina Chalos had fantastic saves/digs, and that's just naming a few players and a few plays, but getting everyone on the same page, on the same possession is hard. Varsity lost the first set 11-25.
The second set looked the same in the box score, 11-25, but it was different on the court. There was more communication and effort and just more determination. However, some of it got lost in translation. More players were calling for the ball and diving, but they weren't listening to each other, leading to collisions and dog piles, and missed dives/passes.
