Fifty-eight pieces of writing by University School of Nashville students have been recognized in the Middle Tennessee Writing Region for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards honor teenagers from Grades 7-12 for their exemplary work in both writing and art.

The goal is to promote teenagers' work, so it can be seen across the world. The purpose of this is to help students capture and identify their talents. With the help of their teachers, students can submit their work into one of 28 categories. Each year, USN students unlock their literary and artistic potential by submitting work into this competition.

"More students entered their writing into the Scholastic Writing Awards than ever before, in a wider range of categories, and I'm delighted to see their voices and words recognized at the regional level. Our writers see themselves and their world in images and sounds, and their words make their experiences, interpretations, and imaginations an inviting space on the page for readers to explore," said English Department Chair Freya Sachs '00.

Twenty-three USN High School students received awards for their writing in this year's program.
